View Full Version : HL S11 - Week 2 Gravelpit

September 18th, 2013, 02:18 PM

Ahoy, land lovers! You've put your lives on the line for our silos full of grain, so now it's time to protect our pits o' gravel! Snap to, RED Henry. We've got work to do!

Gravel Pit, as lots of you know, is also one of Valve's original maps released with Team Fortress 2. Known for its bugs back in 2007 and 2008, the map has been revised a few times, but wasn't fully fixed for competitive play until a few years ago (anyone remember cp_gravelpit_fixed?). This map features 3 capture points, two of which you must capture first (A & B, in no particular order) before capturing the last point, "C" (which is locked until A & B are captured). The team with the best time out of 2 Match Rounds, wins.

Typically, most BLU teams will rush their entire team to point A (sans Medic, Pain Trains in tow) and then meet up with their Medic for a push onto point B, where RED typically sets up their main defense. Sometimes you will see unorthodox holds on point A, or a rush to point B at the start of the round. It's the creative plays which make me love this map. However, a stalemate will be had if teams can't push point B or point C. The best advice I have is to set up a forward line and build an übercharge - don't constantly throw players away! Come up with a plan. Once you have a plan and an über ready, make sure to have your utility classes in place for getting those key picks, and then puuuush in and cap C!

Match Play:
This week's map is a "stopwatch" map. Stopwatch maps are played in 2 (sometimes 3) separate Match-rounds where each team attacks once in each Match-round. Each Match-round awards one (1) match-point to the team with the shortest offensive time. The Home team has choice whether to attack first or defend first in the first match-round only, alternate thereafter. For the full set of HL rules, see our rules page (http://www.ugcleague.com/rules_tf2h_season2.cfm#1).

Match-round 1:

Team A attacks and Team B defends,
Team B attacks and Team A defends

Match-round 2:
Teams manually switch sides.**

Team B attacks and Team A defends,
Team A attacks and Team B defends.

Match-round 3 (tiebreaker only):
Teams manually switch sides again.**

Team A attacks and Team B defends,
Team B attacks and Team A defends.

When adding scores, each Match-round won by a team counts as 1 point. The first team to win two Match-rounds wins the entire match.

If each team wins a Match-round (scores are tied at 1-1), the third full Match-round is played as a tiebreaker, with teams alternating sides one more time.

**If the config is not manually re-executed, it will automatically switch teams to the correct side at the start of the round, which is why you need to manually switch sides before the start of the next Match-round.

Possible match scores:
2-0 or 2-1
